Olympics: Too Many Tweets!
Tuesday Jul 31st, 2012
Despite the importance that has been placed on Twitter’s role during the 2012 London Olympics, the International Olympic Committee has had to ask fans to limit their sending of non-urgent tweets after overburdened data networks disrupted television coverage over the weekend.
The surge of mobile traffic last Sunday overwhelmed signals from GPS location transmitters attached to the racers’ bicycles, and TV commentators could not receive real-time information on the contests, including the locations of many riders.
Despite warnings and restrictions, the Olympics twitter commentary is still coming in thick and fast – providing enjoyable insight and opinion for those who tweet while watching the games.
